At a knitting crossroads

Oh my gosh!

I seriously miss blogging soooo much! So much that I’ve been awake for about 5 whole minutes and here I am, yapping away. My life has been SO busy the past week though 😦 For most people it was Easter vacation, for me it was Easter work your ass off.

I am a part time worker so it’s my job to work all stat holidays, plus I work weekends. So my last day off was Wednesday, and now today it’s Wednesday and I finally get a day! THANK GOD! I am so wiped out right now.

My lapis is done…and when I finished I was a total loss as to what to knit. which brings me to my point of this post…Let’s talk about my WIP.

WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS YARN?! / should I rip my wip?

018

If you count, there are 12 stripes total. I started knitting up a plain stockinette toe up sock because I needed something that was just PLAIN knitting, but now I’m not too sure. the stripes are ginormous. Each sock would only have 6 stripes. Let me show you.

004

Now that I have more than two brain cells to rub together, I’m not opposed to ripping this out. [the yarn is art by ana sock garden BTW!]

Last night I suddenly got the idea to make a sort of stripey shawl/scarf, which I think would be cool. The trick is to find one that will not mess with the stripes, which I’m finding difficult. I saw trillian and thought it might work, but now I’m not so sure. Same with hitchhiker. from the photos I just can’t figure it out! This yarn is quite unique so I can’t really see any other projects made from it. At this point it will be one of those two or else I’ll just make something up myself.

I kind of have this vague idea of starting at one end of the shawl/scarf and increasing up on one side and then decreasing when I hit halfway. I don’t know. I really want a stripey grey and yellow scarf now.

I really can’t decide.

What do you think? have you knit either of those? Would it ‘work’? what about my idea? HELP MEEE!

Please?

I’ll be back later this week with more chatter of course and also hopefully some nice outdoors photos of lapis! I’m heading out today to try. I really need to find someone to take my picture 😛 For now I will give you a sneak peak!

025-001

Snippet of Wednesday

010-001

I started my day off today with my first ever salad eaten for breakfast. Yeah I dunno I never do that but today I really wanted this salad. It’s avocado, mango, walnuts, and an olive oil/ lemon / walnut / s + p dressing. Super simple and quite good! I used less oil and it was still too much! I think I should have had more spinach but oh well. It filled me up for a long time. It’s the Mango and Walnut Salad from GreenKitchenStories.

I also continued knitting the Lapis as a good girl should. Although there’s just one thing…

031

I’m really running out of yarn! Good thing another cone is in the mail on it’s way here. Bad thing, it’s date for arrival is the deadline of this test knit! And oh my, guess what! I just checked the tracking online and it says they tried to deliver it to me today! Sweeeet. So glad I ordered it right when I did. This is the bonus of ordering from a canadian website, and actually why I went with elann in the first place!

Win.

017-001

I also got this in the mail today, which makes me very happy. The ipod case is adorable (owl!) and I love all of the buttons. I don’t have anything specific planned for even one of these buttons…but I don’t care. I wanted them. and I will find uses! These are from heydayhandmade

If you have any ideas of what patterns ANY of these would look good with…let me know!

Wips of glory

028-1

This is one of my WIPs this week! YEAH! Today my goal is to work on weaving in ends and hopefully finish that by this evening. At six I am going with my mom to buy needles I need for the lapis so I want to have this done so I can start Lapis right away with no guilt necessary! The KAL’s goal was to finish by the 31st of march so I am golden, and really happy with that. I started this on February 8th. Not too shabby.

I am so happy that it looks okay. It definitely differs from the original pattern but in the end it worked. The extra collar stitches I worked made it form a more circular neckline, which is fine with me. I’m so happy, I keep jumping up and down (not kidding). This is my first cardigan and wow, it fits BEAUTIFULLY! If i do say so myself.

I have two other things I’ve been working on today though. 1 is another  pair of Camp Out Mitts. Yes, I’ve already finished the first and not even shown them to you yet!

037

I knit my first pair up in 2 days but the colors are NUTS! I love them for at home but not for at work, where i dress more…professionally than rainbow. So I cast these on so that I can have them as my travel knitting (Lapis is worked off a huge cone,  not practical) and in about 30 minutes I’ve almost finished the top band. Love it. I’m going to do a post with both pairs though so here’s just a sneak peak of the other pair:

034
Crazy right?

My other WIP is of course the Lapis. I finally found that size 5 needles get me gauge and I decided to go with the red yarn I bought, which is elann Soie Bambou. I am slightly paranoid about yardage (it only came in giant cones) so I keep checking the stock on the website 😛 there was 19 left when I ordered and still 17 now so I think I will be okay IF I need to order more.

031

I did a circular swatch so my gauge for in the round would be accurate, although honestly my flat / round stockinette hardly differs at all in tension. The silver yarn is very flashy but I think the red has it’s own sort of luminescence as well. I like the slightly tighter fabric of the red and I think it is a bit more similar to Kessa’s original yarn choice so I’ve decided that’s the one I will be using. I’m naming my project Ruby or Garnet, to go with the theme of Kessa’s Lapis title.

WHEW! Okay, so that’s what I’m working on. I think I’ve got to start posting about things in their own posts and more frequently, instead of a couple of times a week I just dump project on you. Whoops!

Go check out everyone else’s too, of course, at Tami’s Amis.

Wip Wed: Stripey socks!!

I’m linking up with Tami once again for WIP Wednesdays. I am so pumped about this WIP!

sock! 001
Check out those matching up perfectly stripes why don’t ya?

My WIP this Wednesday makes me squee! there is something about striped socks that is so fun and addictive.

sock! 004
I’ve made it to the ribbing on one sock (waiting to finish just to make sure I weighed everything out right). This one was knit in about 3 days. I was just CONSUMED.

sock! 005

This one, I am about 10 stripes away from catching up! I think I’ve put in 2 or 3 days on this one? I know I cast on for the first on Friday. I wonder if I will be able to finish them in a week. Wouldn’t that be nuts?!

This yarn is dangerous. I am excited for Fireweed Dyeworks to reopen at the end of march but scared too! How will I knit ANYTHING else when there this ultra squishy and thick delicious yarn to be had. My poor larch is suffering dearly. I just want to finish these so I can stop neglecting it!

sock! 006
Eee! so close. The ball has shrunken very significantly. It’s look pretty unorganized. For some reason when I rewound the second ball it was really loose and almost the same size as the first one. Must have done the 1st a lot tighter. Oh well though!

(5 days ago, hehe!)

So now that you’ve seen my socks of love, go check out some other WIPS! dooo iiiittt.

wip wed: knitter of epic proportions

Yesterday I felt like a SUPERSTAR! Seriously. all it took was a little messing up first!

You see, there is this amazingly beautiful (its totally the yarn, art-by-Ana sock garden) sock on my needles right now. It goes with me wherever I venture, which is mostly hour long bus rides to and from work. I’ve made huge progress on this thing in the past two weeks for NEVER touching it at home.

008-1

Well I guess maybe i shouldn’t have been knitting on the bus at 6 am the previous day because I miscrossed a cable! The horror! The worst part was that I did not notice until TWO cable repeats after. That’s like 14 rows people.

So on the way home I made a decision. I was going to isolate those 6 cable stitches and go back the fourteen rows to fix the cable. Oh yes I did. On the bus.

005-1

It was scary and I kind of felt regret when I first ripped it out. I mean that’s 6 stitches, down 14 rows. I’ve dropped down to fix mistakes before, sure, but only 1 stitch at a time, and a few rows down usually. This was…more daunting? All the strings were all crimpy and wiggly and all OVER the place!

In the end though, I did it! I think I maaaay have made one cable repeat 5 rows and one 7 instead of both 6, but in the end, it’s WAY less noticeable than a cable done wrong. I just wish I took a “before” picture. That was a little too much for the bus ride though.

010-1

And it only took 1 bus ride to fix it. You can see the stitches look a BIT uneven from it (wider) and i swear the very bottom one is the box must be only 5 rows long. but I’m hoping it will block out. Either way, I’m impressed by myself. I was really wishing Chris was a knitter so he would GET how epic it was. Alas, I just told him “I did something REALLY awesome today. what was it? Oh…um…just trust me. it was super cool”.

So that’s my WIP. I hope yours were less…trying. But equally rewarding! I’m heading over to Tami’s ami’s to check them out!

Ps. the pattern I’m following is Cabley Goodness.

owlmazing makes…a declaration of LOVE!

Dear Malabrigo….

I love you. SO much.

007

You are soft, and squishy, and buttery and just amazing. You will keep me warm through my cold canadian winter and I’ll look good being warm too!

002

This week my main focus is my orchids and fairy lights hat. I thought it would go a lot faster than it is, after norby! I though oooh it’s a bigger gauge, less stitches to deal with, it will be even shorter than 4 days!

Yeah, no. Cables and bobbles make that not happen. Sometimes I will do my whole 40 minute bus ride and only finish ONE round! And yes, I am using a cable needle on the bus. Lord know what I am thinking. Now that I’ve completed two repeats though it is picking up speed as i remember the stitch pattern a lot better.

004

Even so I really don’t care because this malabrigo yarn is just so amazing. I AM IN LOVE PEOPLE!!! It is so awesome. I have definitely heard all the hype about malabrigo but knitting it is just another story. Last night in the shower I was thinking “hmmm….I think I need a malabrigo hat in every color available” seriously.

003

I probably shouldn’t go anywhere near my LYS that carries malabrigo…bad things might happen! As I tell the girls at the LYS all the time….”I am weak”.

What are you working on!? 😉
