WIP Wednesday: Something Silver

It’s time to begin the Veera Valimaki KAL over at 2012: A sweater odyssey. I chose to do something silver as i think it will be a good challenge (lace! easy lace!) and I think the light weight of the yarn and the silk content will make it good for summer, which is good as the deadline is july 1!

The yarn is elsebeth lavold Silky Wool. It is a very sticky yarn! But I like it. I decided to be totally un original and choose the exact same color veera used for her cardigan in the exact same yarn. I’m glad I did, I think it works well with the pattern so far. Which I am actually a few rows further into at this point as I have been knitting since taking these photos this morning.

So far I am really liking it. The pattern makes sense, but holy there are a lot of stitch markers! I’m using a very random assortment, I need to color code them like the pattern actually says. So this is my most important and loved wip at the moment ❤

Joining in for WIP wednesdays with Tami once again this week! She’s making some pretty socks this week 🙂

belated larch lundi!

Whoops! I got so caught up with work and hosting ANOTHER dinner last night that I missed my own larch lundi! that’s okay though, it was a delicious dinner and a good night. Plus it was a birthday dinner and I got awesome presents!

Chris made us pulled pork in the slow cooker and it was amazing, I can’t believe how CHEAP a pork shoulder is! We fed 6 and had over half left over…for a 10 dollar cut of meat. Crazyyyy. Crazy good. Served with sauteed herbed potatoes and salad it was great!

We also had a delicious cake made by my mom. Chocolate cake, poked with toothpicks, caramel sauce poured over the holes and cake, whipped cream on top, drizzled with MORE caramel and topped with skor bits. OMG SO DELICIOUS I ALMOST DIED. yeah.

so this is where i’m at so far on my larch. That’s about 16 inches of body in stockinette. I’m at the final decrease, 8 rows past. When i get to the 16th row I’m starting the neck shaping yay! Can’t wait to be done with ginormous part. Progress, i like it. I’ve been knitting in little yarn markers every day or so to mark my progress so it feels less like I’m knitting into a black hole 😉

This is one of my presents! A swift ( & ball winder not in photo) from knitpicks! My parents got this for me and I could not be happier! OMG ITS SO FAST! I’ve been hand winding balls FOREVEEERRR. This is so much better. they also got me a bunch of different cables for my knitpicks interchangeables! I’m set now.

Tada. It was fun and chris wanted to do one after me so i let him 🙂

My old method. The new ones are much neater and prettier eh? Plus they are center pull balls, so much better. Can’t wait to actually ATTATCH one to the sweater.

Now it’s time to keep knitting! I feel so close to a change of pace I just want to PUSH through! I showed everyone the pattern last night while they were here and they all loved it so I can’t wait to wear it. I want my sweater noooow.

The pattern is Larch by Amy Christoffers. The KAL is over at 2012: a sweater odyssey.

*Larch Lundi*

I decided to honour my awesome frenchness (lundi = Monday in French) by doing a ‘series’ called larch lundi. Every Monday I will be posting an update about my beauteous sweater until it is done!

right now I am working on Larch as part of a savory knit-a–long going on at 2012: a sweater odyssey. We are all knitting one of Amy christoffers sweater patterns. I chose Larch obviously. I’m doing weekly updates because I’m working on this pretty much EXCLUSIVELY so I should be able to have something to update each week.

I waited FOREVER for the yarn to come from webs but when it did I was super happy! the yarn I chose is berroco Ultra Alpaca Light in Lavender mix. The pattern called for 9 skeins in my size so I bought 11. Juuuust to be safe. I’m glad I did too because I’ve decided to make this thing a little bit longer than called for.

In the pattern it calls for the first part of the body before the decreases to be 4 inches long. I opted to change mine to 6 to give me a bit of extra length. Always got to make things more complicated for myself you see. I’m 5’10’’ so I appreciate a bit of extra length in a cardigan.

So here’s where I am at! I’ve done about 4 – 5 inched of stockinette. I am on my second skein of yarn. I am in love with my sweater to be – yay!

my favourite thing about it so far is this beautiful ribbing edge. It uses a cast off edge to get that lovely braid look going on. I think it is soooo nice. so happy I did it! And it really wasnt too hard or slow after I got into a rhythm.

basically…knit larch! You know you wannnnna 😉

Oh and just in case you were wondering, yes, i did swatch.

BAM! This is closest in accuracy to color too but still not quite right actually. Notice how every photo in this post is a different color?

owlmazing makes…many things!

No time to chat today! Just time to show what’s on the needles. And what I’m reading. I’m going to link up with Ginny AND Tami! Let’s GO!

Taken from Ginny’s Blog to decribe the Yarn Along:
~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr.  ~

My Lovely Mystery Kal Sock. Too bad Chris’s project below has caused me to fall a bit behind! Loving the way the pattern is coming out though and yeah…I totally cheated and checked everyone’s progress for week 2. LOVE! I think I picked a great yarn, OceanWind Knits Merino Sock Yarn in Tickled.013k.
My Lightweight Pullover. 15 raglan increases in! I’m knitting a modified version to fit a small (smallest size was 35” bust), so I only need to complete 24 or  26 total. Getting there!!!! Here’s The Pattern by Hannah Fetig. I’m using Knit Picks Andean Treasure in Indigo Heather and size 3 needles.

And Chris’s gloves. He requested black gloves and I could not refuse. He is my beloved after all, and my beloved must wear my knitwear. Facts. Of. Life. He also looked at me with the sweetest saddest face the other night when I was NOT working on his project, and said “You dont love me!!!!!!!!!!!!”. He was only kidding but it left quite the impact. Should have these done in no time, as they are aran weight knit on size 7’s! The first one fits like a charm 🙂 The pattern is the Ken Gloves by Berroco Design Team. I am using Zara Yarns 100% merino in  black.

I’m currently on to the second book in the series, and can you believe how much I have READ!? Geeeez. Only thousands of pages and over a day of reading. Did I mention I bought this a couple days after christmas? You get a lot of reading done when you knit and read at the same time. A lot.

What are YOU knitting and reading today?

owlmazing makes…the beginnings of a sweater.

And also joins in for Yarn Along! I’ll toss you this quote from Ginny at Small things, who hosts the yarn along:

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr! ~

This Christmas I received a bunch of gift cards for chapters and decided to buy a kobo vox. It is an e reader! It’s practically an android ipad!! I love it. A) knitting patterns on a screen. So handy. I don’t have a printer, so now I no longer need to HANDWRITE out each pattern I want to make.

Oh no, instead I get to use this lovely pink little thing!

Also…I can now read and knit at the same time. Which makes my life seem extra awesome. Two favorite hobbies….combined! Give me miles of garter or stockinette, that’s what I want! Which leads me to my latest project (sorry no good photo…do you know how hard it is to get a snap when its dark when i leave in the morning and dark when i come home?).

drumroll please….

(okay…it’s not much yet. I cast on last night!)

The Lightweight Pullover by Hannah Fetig! Yes I am knitting a sweater 🙂 I am using the Andean Treasure Alpaca I bought from Knitpicks for this one, although I intended it for a whole other sweater originally. I decided for my first sweater project it would be best to knit something that has been done many, many times before.

I love that I can knit this thing and read my latest book purchase, a Game of Thrones, at the same time.

Love love love.

I’ll try not to ignore my other projects tooooo much.

They might get jealous.
