FO: Garnet

043-001

It’s done! And I got a bunch of outdoors photographs 🙂 I seriously worked my BUTT off to get these pictures!

First I spent 40 minutes walking to and from the park to realize I had forgotten my memory card at home. URGH. So I walk allll the way back. Then it’s either ridiculously cloudy or ridiculously sunny all the time. Did I mention I don’t have a tripod? I was setting my camera wherever I could think of…benches, trees, on the ground, on old stumps, etc. Then there was the issue of having the camera focus on what I wanted it to while I was not actually in the frame yet. Let me just tell you this whole ordeal took me about 3 hours!!!

046-001051-001
I think it was worth it though. These are a couple of bench set photos.

074-001
This one involved setting my camera on top of my purse on the ground and then wiggling away from it for the shot.

038-001053-001

This top is just awesome though (if i do say so myself). I am in love with it. I love the color, I love the texture of the fabric, I love the fit, the look, everything!!!

I think you all know the pattern by now, it’s Kessa’s Lapis! This is a pattern for a beautiful summer top that you can wear out and about or to the office. I would probably wear it like so:

065-001

Minus the jeans. I love you guys but there was no way I was changing pants along the parkway with cars and busses and bikers and walkers passing me all the time 😉

This is a great pattern because at the beginning it has a lot of interest and a very cool construction but eventually you get to move straight into plain stockinette. The directions are very well written and any questions that came up, the schematic pretty much solved right away! I am NOT a crocheter and had no problem doing the crochet required for this knit. I had a lot of fun knitting this 🙂 It was quick too! Under a month from start to finish.

Let me give you some stats in case you are curious, and also feel free to check out the project page on ravelry:

HERE.
100-001

The Yarn is Elann.com’s Soie Bambou. This is the first yarn I have pruchased from elann and it is really good actually! They have incredibly reasonable prices too. a 227gm cone was 28 bucks!!! It is a 60% silk 40% bamboo blend. So far i have not experienced any unwanted stretching! I used 2 cones…but only 30 of 227gms of the second cone. Needless to say I have TONS left.

The needles were size 000 addi turbos lace needles and size 5 knitpicks harmonies. The seed stitch was a bit difficult at first on such small needles but i got used to it pretty quickly.

The notes can be found on my project page. I hardly altered anything at all!

The buttons are still MIA! Although they have been shipped, and if you are curious, these are them.

101-001

overall, I’m in love! My boyfriend says it looks sexy so i think that’s a good sign. A friend I showed it to (who has “no patience” for knitting) told me she couldn’t even tell it was knit! So I think its a win. This thing is awesome. I’m really proud to have 2 full sized garment under my belt now!

Go check out Kessa’s Lapis Pattern now!

And everyone else’s FO’s at Tami’s too of course. today she is showing off soooo much yarn, jealous! I just ordered a skein from her though…woohoo!

FO Friday: Cheery Men Mittens

DSC_0032-001
love to my bloggy friends ❤

Okay it is finally time for me to show off this FO. For some reason(s), like being sick, being away, being lazy, etc. I have never shown a full photo of these! Which is a shame because they are full of happy. In fact, I named them Cheery Men mittens! 1. They are cheery. 2. The yarn is called noro chirimen which I just though was really cute.

DSC_0029-002

It’s a good thing too, because I was feeling like a major grump before writing this. I have so. much. bus. rage. I know I should just let those things go but…URHGHGHGH have some common decency people! It’s not that hard. Anyways I’m getting way off track, as usual…

DSC_0031-001

The pattern is Camp Out fingerless mitts. I love this pattern! I could see myself making…hundreds of these. It’s crazy. Although after my second pair (which I’ve been like 5 rows away from finishing for.ev.er.) I’m going to take a wee break from them.

The yarn is Noro Chirimen as I mentioned earlier. It is a silk wool cotton blend, and actually quite soft. I find Chirimen is less scratchy than say…Kureyon. Which I like. I find it weird that Chirimen is MUCH less popular…a whopping 700 projects on ravelry versus 35,000. & 1 online buying option as opposed to 19. It’s weird. and although this is a “dk” i say it knits up like a worsted, and some spots are definitely aran or heavier.

also, as you can see, 1 skein contains a variety of crazy colors. Sometimes I can’t believe these mitts are from the same skein.

but they are.

POW!

Right?

I knit these puppies up according to pattern on a size 6. I highly highly recommend the pattern to everyone! I get cold hands knitting / typing which causes them to get sore really quickly. These solve that issue for me!

I ❤ them.

& I ❤ all of your projects too, so I’m going over to Tami’s now to check em all out!

FO: Larch Cardigan

If you’ve read my previous entries on the larch cardigan, then you know it may have been an uphill battle at times. But the fact of the matter is, I won the battle!

011-1

I finished the knitting of the Larch earlier in the week and attached the button last night to call it an official FO. I’m still wearing it right now, I love it 🙂 It’s a totally gloomy day here, raining and everything so this purple alpaca hug is making me happy.

025-1

Apparently some people actually quite like the way my collar worked out, so I thought I would just go over what I did again quickly for anyone who wanted to recreate it. (If this doesn’t make sense to you, I’m hoping that’s only because I tried to make it so only people with the pattern will know what to do)

Basically, i picked up stitches (in the fashion of the pattern) all the way to the two edges of the cardigan instead of stopping at the earlier point. This took me a few extra rows than prescribed in the pattern so the last 4 rows of picking up I actually counted as the first four rows of the prescribed ‘full rows of ribbing’ over the entire collar. 029-1

this meant that when I got to the end of those rows, there was an extra edge to now pick up stitches on. This method definitely makes you work more stitches, that is for sure! The two “horizontal” rows that you can see near the base of the collar are the edges I am talking about. You can look back at this post to see where I circled what I did. This method DOES give you one less seam though! The seam to attach the collar is eliminated.

Overall, I’m totally in love. I realized this is my first finished full sized garment. YEAH! I feel like I’ve already grown so much since i re-picked up knitting about 6 months ago. I’ve done so much more than I ever did before, and it makes me happy! Let’s get to the basics on the cardi though:
024-1

Pattern: Larch By Amy Christoffers
Yarn: Berroco Ultra Alpaca Light in Lavender Heather from yarn.com
I would definitely use this yarn again, I really like it. There were no unwanted knots in any of the 8 or 9 skeins I used.
Needles: Size 4 Circulars (Knit picks interchangeables were used)
Notes: See above!!
Knit For: Savory Knitting KAL

Tada!

I have tons of housework to get to but I really want to check out the other pretties at Tami’s Amis. I’m blasting some Duffy and hoping it will motivate me to go fast and do both!

FOfriday

you should do that as well 😉

FO Friday: The socks are done!

009-1

Wow. Taking pictures of socks is hard. I decided to post some of my fails today to show you that yes, taking photos of your own feet is a challenge. And no, Chris cannot do it, he is never home during daylight!! At least not when I am.

006-1
Exhibit A: Cool. You got the light from the window. But…What kind of a chair cushion IS that? And is that coffee I see in the background? Mmm…Coffee. I mean, socks? what?

025-1
Exhibit B: Random poses. Feet need to longingly look out the window too, you know.

034-1033-1
Exhibit C: Oh, hey chair leg, sup? And you, window curtain, how you liking it here in all my photos? Comfy? oh, good.

020
Finally I got so frustrated I threw my legs up into the sky and gave up. But then that looked ridiculous too.

016-1

The Pattern: I just did a plain version with increases up to 64 sts instead of 72 of this pattern. I also decreased to 60 on the leg.
The Yarn: Gray, Golden Yellow, and Pumpkin Self-Striping Superwash Merino Sock Yarn from AlaskanNancy
The Needles: Us size 1 / 2.25mm Chiagoo AMAZINGNESS
The Notes: Obviously I love these socks. I mean, they’ve totally taken over my entire blog for the past week. This yarn is the best. It is sooooo nice on the toes. The striping is amazing. I used pretty  much all of the 110g of yarn I had. I love how I was able to match up the stripes pretty much perfectly. It actually made it easy to replicate two almost identical socks because I could watch the striping around the heel and know exactly what to do next. I highly recommend Nancy’s shop, Fireweed Dyeworks. I knit these puppies up in 6 days!!!

030-1

I’m joining in with Tami for this weeks FO friday. Go check out her cute sweater and everyone else’s stuff! I see a night of blog reading and knitting larch sleeves in my future. The boyfriend ( or should I call him the DJ) is getting a new CDJ (like a turntable that uses CD’s instead of records) on his way home from work tonight so I am going to be left to my own devices. I like it.

owlmazing makes…many FO’s

Only 1 of them knitting though. The other things I’ve finished today are:

– sweeping
-mopping
– cleaning the bedroom
– dishes
– grocery shopping
– laundry
-ETC!!

We are having chris’s parents and sister + her boyfriend over for dinner tonight so I’ve been in a bit of a cleaning frenzy you might say. Mostly just things that needed to be done so now they are DONE! Taco night with the family may ensuuuue!

I also have something much more exciting than housework to share…

010-1
Amazon Stripe Beanie! Yay it’s done! I actually finished it last thursday but I thought I would save it for this week since I know I am going Larch crazy over here, I am in the black hole of stockinette right now, agghhh!!!

001-1005-1

The Pattern: Amazon Stripe beanie by Elisa McLaughlin
The Yarn: Malabrigo merino worsted in water green
The needles: US size 9 and 10.5
The notes: I was sceptical while I was knitting this that it was going to be TOO long but in the end it worked out just fine. I looooove this hat and I think it is the most flattering one I have made so far for myself. I am GOING to make more! I think some pretty hand spun (not by me of course) would be perrrfect, and in fact there is a hand spun version included in the pattern, awesome! I can’t wait to make many more and I love the construction. I used the braided piece to thread through the hat instead of a piece of yarn though.

My Pattern Page

What did you guys finish?!?! I’m going to head over to Tami’s ami’s to check out the other FO’s before dinner. I have a feeew more me minutes!

owlmazing makes…soft cable socks

scsocks 023-1

I’ve got another FO friday post for you! And once you finish here, check out the rest at Tami’s Amis.

I finished my pair of soft cable socks! FINALLY! I had these on the needles for 2 months! I only started working on them monogamously in the past week and that allowed me to get them done!

scsocks 004-1

The Pattern: Soft Cable socks by Sue Stratford

scsocks 005-1
Together!

The Yarn: Regia Extra Twist Merino in 09332

The Needles: Size 2 DPNS

scsocks 001-1
Inside foot

The Notes: I like these socks a lot but I wish I knit them on size 1’s. So today i headed out to the yarn store for new needles for my next socks. I love the simplicity of these socks and i think they are gorgeous if i do say so myself. The 1 x 1 twisted ribbing is super pretty. They also were great to take on the bus. I think I might cast on another pair with the yarn I bought today…am I crazy?

I did make a mistake on these. The cables were supposed to be one CF and one CB but I did them all holding the cable needle in front. Whoops. I realised this when I went to start the second sock so I just went with it. Seriously, I’m one to just go with my mistakes (if they aren’t so bad) instead of fixing one and having them not match. That just irks me.

Overall, super easy pattern and i love my sockies!!! This is my first pair of socks FOR ME. My first pair ever was for my momma (edwardian boating socks).

In case you were wondering…here is what I bought today 😉 The yarn is art-by-ana sock garden, 75%SW merino, 25% nylon. I think I will try my first pair of toe up socks with this skein.

owlmazing makes…orchids and fairy lights.

034-1
Woop! i can’t believe I am able to post my WIP wed and my FO fri with the same object. Somehow writing about how slow it was going allowed me to speed up like crazy. Last night I was simply DETERMINED to finish the hat and I did!030-1

The Pattern: Orchids and Fairy Lights by Tiny Owl Knits aka Stephanie

035-2

The Yarn: Malabrigo Merino Worsted in Periwinkle, 21gms left over.

031-1

The Needles: Size US 7 circular needle, 32”, worked in magic loop

My project Page

The Notes: I love the way the final product turned out but I must say by the end of it i was definitely getting sick of the cables! My hands were craving stockinette. It doesn’t help that I’m doing another project (2012 KK Mystery socks) and they include the same design elements – bobble and 1/1 cables! In the end I really like it but I may not make it again for quite some time. I definitely think every girl needs 1 though! ❤ So warm and fuzzy, the yarn also helped the stitches be really defined and beautiful.043-1
Skills Gained: Magic Loop.

050-1

That’s it! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! I am going out to dinner with my parents and brother / our respective boyfriend & girlfriend for my birthday dinner. Technically my birthday is a week away, but we are doing something special for ym bday weekend! So dinner tonight it is 🙂 I’m not getting any gifts today but that’s fine, it’s going to be delicious food and a fun night!

Check out the other finished objects from this week at Tami’s Amis.
