Honey Cowl and 1Q84

I decided I had to participate in yarn along today because I am fully obsessed with the book I am reading. I’m reading 1Q84.

THIS BOOK IS CRAZY! I’m only 29% in and I want to read what other people are thinking about it so badly but I don’t want any spoilers in reading reviews! It’s actually published as 1 book although the original japanese version was 3 books. So it’s pretty darn long! I just finished the first book. One thing I wish my kobovox did was tell me what page I am on. Not just what page of the chapter but of the whole book. That’s my only complaint though!

Anyways I won’t do into too much details but this book is an ode to George Orwell’s 1984, which I also adored. It follows 2 characters (at least where I am so far) who seem very different. Ah, I don’t even want to say anything, because nothing should be spoiled! If your curious check it out here.

(yes i took these photos yesterday…I had no idea if i was working and I wanted to be prepared 🙂 )

Okay onto what I am knitting. that is also important!

I’m working on the Honey cowl and ADORING it. I was hesitant to start this project for SO long because I knew it would be large rounds and I was worried it would take forever. Little did I know it’s going really quickly in reality. I think it’s the yarn.

002-001(now that’s a fresh photo!)

The yarn i am using is Art-by-Ana Dreaming DK in Splash. This is a merino cashmere nylon blend of beauty! Ana is an amazing dyer local to me and I love using her yarn so much! I think this will be my first FO from her yarn though actually. She has an etsy store but she sells the majority of her yarn locally. I actually have a skein waiting for me to grab it right now!

This project is using 2 skeins, which I alternate every 2 rows. One is slightly lighter than the other so I felt it necessary. I wanted bits of lighter teal all over the place on this one. I just love the way it looks!!

It’s so luscious. I can’t wait to wear it! I wish it was slightly more portable, but that’s not stopping me from bringing it on the bus with me. Definitely not. I need to have it at work to knit on my break! I work fun shifts like 2 – 10 pm with no one else but me in the office 🙂

At a knitting crossroads

Oh my gosh!

I seriously miss blogging soooo much! So much that I’ve been awake for about 5 whole minutes and here I am, yapping away. My life has been SO busy the past week though 😦 For most people it was Easter vacation, for me it was Easter work your ass off.

I am a part time worker so it’s my job to work all stat holidays, plus I work weekends. So my last day off was Wednesday, and now today it’s Wednesday and I finally get a day! THANK GOD! I am so wiped out right now.

My lapis is done…and when I finished I was a total loss as to what to knit. which brings me to my point of this post…Let’s talk about my WIP.

WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS YARN?! / should I rip my wip?

If you count, there are 12 stripes total. I started knitting up a plain stockinette toe up sock because I needed something that was just PLAIN knitting, but now I’m not too sure. the stripes are ginormous. Each sock would only have 6 stripes. Let me show you.

Now that I have more than two brain cells to rub together, I’m not opposed to ripping this out. [the yarn is art by ana sock garden BTW!]

Last night I suddenly got the idea to make a sort of stripey shawl/scarf, which I think would be cool. The trick is to find one that will not mess with the stripes, which I’m finding difficult. I saw trillian and thought it might work, but now I’m not so sure. Same with hitchhiker. from the photos I just can’t figure it out! This yarn is quite unique so I can’t really see any other projects made from it. At this point it will be one of those two or else I’ll just make something up myself.

I kind of have this vague idea of starting at one end of the shawl/scarf and increasing up on one side and then decreasing when I hit halfway. I don’t know. I really want a stripey grey and yellow scarf now.

I really can’t decide.

What do you think? have you knit either of those? Would it ‘work’? what about my idea? HELP MEEE!

I’ll be back later this week with more chatter of course and also hopefully some nice outdoors photos of lapis! I’m heading out today to try. I really need to find someone to take my picture 😛 For now I will give you a sneak peak!

wip wed: knitter of epic proportions

Yesterday I felt like a SUPERSTAR! Seriously. all it took was a little messing up first!

You see, there is this amazingly beautiful (its totally the yarn, art-by-Ana sock garden) sock on my needles right now. It goes with me wherever I venture, which is mostly hour long bus rides to and from work. I’ve made huge progress on this thing in the past two weeks for NEVER touching it at home.

Well I guess maybe i shouldn’t have been knitting on the bus at 6 am the previous day because I miscrossed a cable! The horror! The worst part was that I did not notice until TWO cable repeats after. That’s like 14 rows people.

So on the way home I made a decision. I was going to isolate those 6 cable stitches and go back the fourteen rows to fix the cable. Oh yes I did. On the bus.

It was scary and I kind of felt regret when I first ripped it out. I mean that’s 6 stitches, down 14 rows. I’ve dropped down to fix mistakes before, sure, but only 1 stitch at a time, and a few rows down usually. This was…more daunting? All the strings were all crimpy and wiggly and all OVER the place!

In the end though, I did it! I think I maaaay have made one cable repeat 5 rows and one 7 instead of both 6, but in the end, it’s WAY less noticeable than a cable done wrong. I just wish I took a “before” picture. That was a little too much for the bus ride though.

And it only took 1 bus ride to fix it. You can see the stitches look a BIT uneven from it (wider) and i swear the very bottom one is the box must be only 5 rows long. but I’m hoping it will block out. Either way, I’m impressed by myself. I was really wishing Chris was a knitter so he would GET how epic it was. Alas, I just told him “I did something REALLY awesome today. what was it? Oh…um…just trust me. it was super cool”.

So that’s my WIP. I hope yours were less…trying. But equally rewarding! I’m heading over to Tami’s ami’s to check them out!

Ps. the pattern I’m following is Cabley Goodness.
